		Coming from the east coast and the Punta Cana and Bavaro resort areas necessitates a private taxi ride of about 3 1/2 hours to the ferry at Sabana de la Mar on the south side of Samana Bay and across from the peninsula. Departure times for the ferry’s crossing to Samana are 8am, 11am, 3pm and 5pm. Then a boat ride of a little over an hour will see your arrival in Samana harbor with further travel time by taxi of ½ hour to Las Galeras or a little under an hour to Las Terrenas. The ferry departs Samana for the southerly crossing to Sabana de la Mar at 7am, 9am, 11am and 3pm.
Other travel options from the island’s east coast include a quick ½ hour charter flight from the Punta Cana or La Romana airports or by public bus or rental car which necessitates about a 4 hour trip west to Santo Domingo before proceeding north and east to Samana, an additional 4 to 5 hour drive. This makes for a long day’s travel of 9 to 10 hours and also means leaving very early in the morning to arrive at your destination in Samana before dark. Puerto Plata and it’s airport (also serving the Sosua and Cabarete areas) is about 3 hours away via the North Coast highway. Some bus service is available to Samana and return. Also private air transportation is also available. Check with your hotel for the current carriers and their schedules. Rental cars are also available in these areas.
Las Galeras	Samana		Las Terrenas

For getting around the peninsula your options include public and private taxis and rental vehicles available in Las Galeras, Las Terrenas and Samana. Rentals available include cars, 4WD Jeeps and SUV’s, quads, and regular motorbikes or small motorcycles. Private taxis may be booked through your hotel or at one of their gathering points in the populated areas. These gathering points include the end of the main highway at the beach in Las Galeras, on the Malecon (harborside road) across from the Metro and Caribe Tours bus stations in Samana and on the beach road at a point about ¼ mile east of the centrally-located, oceanfront cemetery in Las Terrenas. They may also be found during arrival times at the Metro and Caribe Tours bus stations in Sanchez for the 45 minute ride across the peninsula’s mountains to the north coast and Las Terrenas.
